Seychelles roots, connections further afield

.SC is the country-code top-level domain of the Republic of Seychelles, an archipelago in the Indian Ocean. Its 115 islands have their capital in Victoria, about 1,500 kilometres (932 miles) east of mainland East Africa.

The extension has also been marketed to businesses in Scotland and the US state of South Carolina, and websites associated with both places use .SC. Every .SC domain remains subject to Seychelles registry rules, wherever its owner or audience is based.

01

Seychelles

A local identity for island businesses, hospitality, travel and community projects.

02

Scotland

A memorable SC connection for websites associated with Scotland. Seychelles policies still apply.

03

South Carolina

A short address for projects associated with the US state. The registry remains in Seychelles.

What makes a valid .SC name?

01

2–63 characters

Use Latin letters, numbers 0–9 and hyphens, in any permitted combination. Uppercase and lowercase names are treated alike.

02

No hyphen at either end

The name must not begin or end with a hyphen. Certain names are reserved and are available only under special conditions published by the registry.

03

Instant registration after checks

The domain is activated once payment is complete and all requested documents, including payment confirmation, have been received. Registration is then instant.

Move your .SC domain with its EPP code

Request the EPP authorisation code from the current registrar and provide it to the gaining registrar. The process completes in 7 working days; management with the new registrar becomes available after completion.

  1. Check domain status

The domain must be active, unlocked and registered for more than 60 days. Inactive names and names being deleted or redeemed are not eligible.

  2. Request and submit the code

Obtain the EPP code from the losing registrar and send it to the gaining registrar to start the transfer.

  3. Approve the move

Approval is required from both the losing registrar and the administrative contact. A refusal by either party denies the transfer.

No reply within one week?

Silence from the losing registrar is treated as approval. Silence from the administrative contact during the same week results in refusal.

Recent registration or transfer

A request is refused if the domain was registered, transferred or refused a transfer less than two months earlier.

Completion and notifications

When explicit approval, refusal or a timeout ends the process, all three parties are notified by email. The owner can manage the domain after a successful transfer.

Start offering .SC domains

VCS (Pty) Ltd is the sponsoring organisation for Seychelles’ .SC country-code domain. NIC.SC maintains administrative domain data, controls name-allocation policies and operates the zone file containing each domain’s name servers. A registry may perform registration itself or delegate it to registrars.

GlobalR works directly with Afilias to provide .SC domain registry services. Offer these domains to your customers at competitive prices through our gateway, saving the time and resources involved in becoming a registrar yourself, including extensive approval processes and testing. Our experienced team is here to answer your questions and support your domain business.

Before you choose .SC

Is .SC a Scottish or South Carolina domain?

It is Seychelles’ country-code domain. Websites connected to Scotland and South Carolina also use it, but Seychelles registry rules apply to every registration.

What do the four extensions cost?

Registration, renewal and transfer each cost $97.75 for .SC, .COM.SC, .NET.SC and .ORG.SC. Restoration is $92.00 for every listed extension. Registration and renewal prices are annual.

When does a registration become active?

Registration is instant after payment and receipt of all requested documents, including payment confirmation. Reserved names have special registration conditions.

What happens if application details are missing?

The registry can request the missing information. If it is not supplied within 7 working days, the domain may be suspended.

Can the owner request private WHOIS?

Yes. Email info@globalr.com with the request to keep the owner’s contact information out of public WHOIS under the applicable privacy arrangements.

What can prevent a transfer?

A locked or inactive domain, deletion or redemption, or registration within the past 60 days prevents transfer. A registration, transfer or transfer refusal less than two months ago also causes refusal. Both the losing registrar and administrative contact must approve.
