.EC is the ccTLD for Ecuador.

Ecuador is a country straddling the equator on South America’s west coast. Ecuador is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. Ecuador has over one hundred different types of hummingbirds and thousands of orchid varieties. Quito is the capital of Ecuador.

The domains with the .ec extension are very popular in Ecuador and around its geographical area. The .ec domain has been around since 1991.

Mandatory Requirements for .EC Domain Names

• The Domain Name may only contain numbers (0-9), dashes and Latin letters, and its combination,
• The Domain Name with capital and lowercase letters are not differentiated between;
• The Domain Name shall not start and end with a dash;
• The minimum number of symbols for Domain Name is 3 (three) and maximum- 65 (sixty-five).
• Other special characters, spaces or stressed vowels (such as à, é, ò, í) are not permitted.

.EC Domain activation

The domain name can be activated when the payment is complete and we have all the requested documents (including the payment confirmation). The domain registration time frame for .ec during general availability is Instant. The .ec domain can be registered by companies and individuals.

Certain domains are reserved by the registry and can only be registered as Domain Names under special conditions.

Notice: If the Registrar or Registrant submits incomplete information, Registry reserves its right to request from the Registrar to submit respective data. If the requested data is not provided, the Registry is authorized to suspend functioning of the Domain Name.

Private Whois Registration

At present, the .ec domain zone does not provide means to hide the information of the domain owner. All information (name, address, email, etc.) will be displayed in WHOIS.

Domain Transfer from registrar to registrar

The transfer process performs based on EPP code. The registrant should request the code from the losing registrar and provide the gaining one.

The transfer of the domain may take 7-10 working days.

Domain Renewal

If the Registrant via the intermediation does not renew the domain name, it will be Suspended during the 30 (thirty) days period from the expiry date of the domain name registration. After the lapse of the 30 (thirty) days period, the Registry is obliged to cancel domain name registration and delete data related to the domain name from the Domain Name Register. The domain will become available for everyone.
