.AM ccTLD is used to identify the domain names that belong to Armenia, a sovereign state located in the Caucasus region of Eurasia, which shares borders with Iran, Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan. Armenia has an estimated population of approximately 3 million people and the official language is Armenian.
The .AM domain name presents a great opportunity for local and international companies wishing to represent their business in Armenia.
The .AM domain names are also used for America, Amsterdam and .AM broadcasting. .AM is relatively free zone, and there are approximately 37,000 domains registered. Individuals from any location can apply for an .AM domain name. The number of previously registered domain names will not affect the .AM registration in any way.
In short, if you need to register an .AM domain name, just apply for it.
The registration form checks for this automatically. We also check the validity of your application - all fields should contain meaningful and correct values.
The domain registration takes a maximum of 3 business days after the payment and can be registered from 1 to 10 years.
The registration takes place on a first-come, first-served basis, except the list of Reserved Domain Names.

For the .AM domain GlobalR.com provides the following services: Private Whois Registration, Domain Parking, and Domain Backorder services. So you can hide the registrant's personal data, transfer domains from one registrar to another, and change owner before the domain expiration date.
This service will replace the public information that you provide with an anonymous proxy identity in the public Whois database. This includes replacing registrant’s email address with a proxy private@globalr.com and replacing your address and contact information with the information from GlobalR.
We understand that the domain name has its financial and commercial value. In order to get a favorable domain name, the customers either are buying a domain name or backorder the one which is going to be expired. So, customers of our registrars can backorder any domain name which is expiring. The fee for the service starts from $99,00 per domain name. The service takes place on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information contact us via backorder@globalr.com
GlobalR portfolio’s domain transfer is a free service and is performed based on an authentication code, which is sent to the domain administrative email. So if you need to transfer the domain first of all your customer needs to apply to the domain’s current registrar and ask them to send the code of the domain. The code should be passed then to the gaining registrar.
After receiving a request from the gaining registrar, confirmation requests are generated and sent via letter to the losing registrar and administrative contact of the domain name. Each message contains links to approve/refuse the transfer or check its current status. A separate message is sent to the gaining registrar that allows them to check the transfer status.
As soon as both the losing registrar and administrative contact approve the transfer, it will be approved. If one of two denies it, the transfer will be denied.
If no response is received from the losing registrar in one week, it is assumed approved. If no response is received from the administrative contact in the same week, the transfer will be refused.
As soon as the process is finalized either by explicit approval/refusal or by timeout, all three parties will be informed via letter.
There is a choice to prevent possible transfer request(s) in advance by activating the domain lock flag. In that case, the registry will not accept the initial request.
Any transfer request for a domain name, that has been registered or transferred or refused to be transferred in less than two months, will be refused.
Please note that in order to transfer a domain name, the domain must be active. If the domain is locked, inactive, or in the process of being deleted or redeemed, then it doesn’t comply with transferring requirements.
A domain must also have been registered for more than 60 days before you are allowed to transfer registrars.
To change a domain's legal owner, the registrar needs to provide the signed (in the case of legal entities sealed and signed) and scanned document from the current owner. If the current owner is just one individual, the registrar needs to provide his/her ID card or passport scan.
On the registrar's control panel, there is an attached file that must be filled and should be sent to the current owner to sign (in the case of legal entities to seal and sign for) and sent back with the requested documents.
NOTE: "Owner change" service before domain expiration date is considered as a new registration and demands an annual payment.

The Domains within the .am ccTLD enjoy popularity due to the connection with AM radio (similar to the .fm and .tv ccTLDs), and the ability to form English words ending in "am" – e.g. the mobile photo sharing service Instagram uses the Armenian domain name “Instagr.am”.
American music artist and producer will.i.am uses the domain for his website.
Financial company JP Morgan also uses an .am domain to stand for "Assessment Management". Such unconventional usages of ccTLDs in domain names are called domain hacks.
Chinese use .am domains as a country code top level domain for Macau.

Domain name Registries, including the .am domain registry, keep all information about registered domains together with the registrant names and other data specific for the region or domain extension. Like the majority of other registries, the Armenian (.am) domain registry operates its own NIC (network information center) where all that data together with zone file, where the DNS Servers for every domain in Armenia, is stored.
Very few registries are getting involved with the domain registration service and delegate that to special companies called registrars. Registrars are then allowed to provide domain registration services to other companies or end-users. Every .am domain Registrar should be approved by the am domain registry.
GlobalR works directly with AMNIC and provides .am domain registry services to all interested parties. Working with GlobalR allows you to offer am domains to your clients at very competitive prices. Becoming a registrar yourself is lengthy and expensive work, as your company should be physically present and be incorporated in Armenia, then go through the extensive approval process.
Using GlobalR am domain registry service will save your time and resources. You can rest assured that our experienced team is here for you to answer all questions and provide you with the highest quality service and support.
